ITEM - Call for proposals 2023 “Ecoles de la transition”

29 May 2023

The Mediterranean Institute for Environmental Transition (ITEM) is one of the institutes combining teaching and high-level research, created by Aix-Marseille University in 2020. Its mission is to generate and disseminate new knowledge concerning the major contemporary socio-environmental issues around the environmental transition, to bring out talents and to attract the best researchers.

ITEM proposes to be a scientific space of emergence, exchange and transmission in order to set up new ways of thinking and acting to lead to actions in the direction of a "transition". These actions will have to fall within the field of "complex thinking" in order to apprehend environmental issues in terms of socio-environmental interactions.

The objective of ITEM is to take into account the complexity of environmental issues, which implies in particular to go beyond the "techno-centric" approaches, to assume and to make visible the uncertainty which characterizes the scientific solutions, and to reflect on the scope of the actions of research in society.

In this third edition of the "Ecoles de la transition" call for proposals, the "Field Schools" and "Thematic Schools" components of the previous edition have been maintained. The constitution of pedagogical teams and the mobilization of audiences from different disciplinary fields are encouraged, whether within the environmental sciences (ES), within the humanities and social sciences (SHS) or mixed SE/SHS.
