Looking back on the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the IRD

In 2019, the IRD celebrated its 75th anniversary. It was an opportunity for the Institute to affirm its positioning in favour of a science of sustainability and to show the key role of collaboration with countries of the South in achieving this goal.
The IRD's missions are based on the theme of "scientific knowledge for the common good", which marked this anniversary. Here is a summary of the event:

The year was punctuated by some thirty events in France and abroad, among which are the following:

The launch of IRD's 75th anniversary on February 22nd at the International Symposium on Research, Development and the Common Good, Musée du quai Branly-Jacques-Chirac, Paris, which brought together more than 400 people.
The exhibition Sahara Connected Worlds at the Museum of African, Oceanic and Amerindian Arts of the City of Marseille, born from the meeting between Titouan Lamazou, artist-traveller, and Charles Grémont, historian at the IRD, which welcomed more than 50 000 visitors between May and September.
The international colloquium Science ouverte au Sud in partnership with UCAD, which took place from 23 to 25 October in Dakar, Senegal, marked by a Declaration for the sharing and opening of research data for sustainable development.

This 75th anniversary of the IRD was an opportunity for the Institute to be at the forefront of this science, playing a role of training and impetus for all French and francophone research, especially scientists from the South.
The IRD was able to show its commitment and missions in the service of sustainable science, while federating the scientific, academic, political, economic and media communities. From scientific production to the sharing and appropriation by society of its results, the IRD is committed to research for the common good.
Each event has embodied in its own way the Institute's values and its major innovations, which are now mobilized in the service of the major challenges of the Sustainable Development Goals.
