Thematic School CYTOEXPERT2022

The MIO organized at the Endoume Marine Station the CNRS Thematic School "CYTOEXPERT 2022

Thanks to the support of CNRS, IR ILICO, lRP "DYF2M" (CNRS) and the PRECYM platform of the MIO, the MIO was able to organize from October 4 to 7 at the Marine Station of Endoume a thematic school whose objective was to impulse a community action to master and disseminate the good practices in flow cytometry These good practices are essential to perform quality analyses of aquatic planktonic microbial assemblages and guarantee robust and bankable data that can be shared and disseminated nationally and internationally. In order for these data to leverage science and innovation, it is imperative that they are reliable, easily accessible and reusable according to FAIR principles. It is also essential that these data be qualified and that they meet the standardized analysis protocols recognized by the community. The objectives of the thematic school were to present to its participants

The vocabulary of cytometry (measured variables, groups described, characteristics of instruments, measurements performed...) as defined by experts in the field,
The good practices essential to the production of quality data,
The cytometry data processing chain, from the cytometer to the data bank.

The school taught 20 people (researchers, ITAs, post-docs and doctoral students) from all over France, of all levels in cytometry, from the marine or freshwater domain, through theoretical courses and practical workshops on different models of cytometers, the most up-to-date protocols for the preparation and analysis of samples resulting from the technological watch carried out by its expert speakers in the field. Thanks to the exchange of information with the community, the 7 instructors of the Oceanographic Observatory of Banyuls (OOB), the Geochemistry Laboratory (LOG) of Wimereux and the MIO were able to present and discuss the locks as well as the tools likely to improve the procedure of generation, treatment and visualization of the cytometry data, as well as their archiving on interoperable databases.
