MIO-IRD at the 8th Lumexplore Festival
From September 20 to 24, 2023, at the Cinéma Eden Théâtre, in La Ciotat, attend the 8th edition of the Lumexplore festival to (re)discover the fields of scientific exploration through films, photo exhibitions and meetings. The IRD, a partner in this event, is offering a screening-debate of the documentary "A la recherche de la nouvelle mer des Sargasses", on Thursday September 21 at 5:30 pm.

The "Sargasso Sea" is one of those stretches of ocean that are as famous as they are mysterious. Recently, however, Sargassum has been in the news for invading the shores of the Caribbean. Why are these small algae floating on the surface proliferating well beyond their historical range? This is what a multi-disciplinary team from the Mediterranean Institute of Oceanology (MIO) has set out to understand. A screening-debate in the presence of IRD director Hubert Bataille, with Delphine Thibault, marine zooplankton specialist and scientific diver, Thierry Thibaut, phycologist and marine ecologist, and Sandrine Ruitton, marine ecologist.
