Official signature of the Declaration of Punta Arenas, Chile, by the IRD and the MNHN

Léa Cabrol (MIO-MEB), representative of the Institute of Research for Development (IRD)-MNHN in Chile signed last week the Declaration of Punta Arenas with national authorities, represented by Andrés Couve, Chilean Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, representatives of the private sector and academia, and international collaborations (several embassies including the French Embassy).

This charter aims to make the southern region of Chile a natural laboratory for observation, study, and adaptation to climate change, by developing a sustainable scientific and technological center of excellence, oriented towards society. This is a recognition of the strategic interest and involvement of our research activities in the southern zone, around the themes of biodiversity and climate change, in collaboration with the various Chilean stakeholders.
