Two new researchers at the MIO

Since December 1, 2018, the MIO has welcomed two new researchers:

  • Frédéric Le Moigne, CNRS researcher, CEM team, Luminy/Marseille
  • Isabelle Navarro, IRD Research Officer, MEB team, at La Garde/Toulon

Frédéric Le Moigne obtained his thesis at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, United Kingdom in 2012 before obtaining a contract research position at the GEOMAR Centre in Kiel in northern Germany. Frédéric works mainly on organic carbon exchanges between the surface and the depths of the open ocean. These exchanges take the form of what is called "marine snow". This "marine snow" is essentially composed of planktonic detritus that flows from the surface to the ocean floor. Recruited by the CNRS, Frédéric joins the CEM team and the biological pump TA, very much in line with his research theme."

Isabelle Navarro's work focuses on the adaptation of bacterial communities in marine environments contaminated with heavy metals. They are based on the complementarity of comparative and functional metagenomic approaches. They will be addressed through massive sequencing of metagenomes and the creation of metagenomic banks to target functional genes.

In a broader context, the objectives aim to elucidate coping mechanisms by considering cellular, population and community levels
