FAP Review n°6: Environment and Sustainable Development in Southeast Asia

Publication of the 6th issue of the journal Francophonie Asie Pacifique entitled "Environment and Sustainable Development in Southeast Asia", edited by AMU, IFI and IRD and prepared and edited by Emilie Strady (MIO -CEM), Alexis Drogoul (IRD, Vietnam Representative) and Nguyen Thai Huyen (HAU, Vietnam)
This issue is important: conceived in line with IRD's regional roadmap in Asia, it lists a set of works carried out by IRD and its partners in Southeast Asia and allows us to measure their diversity but also their coherence, which we have tried to underline in the introduction.

CNES is organizing a coastal altimetry day on March 17: MIO colleagues will speak at the event

Anne Petrenko, MIO-OPLC ("Edge current by altimetry at JULIO, off Marseille") and Anne Molcard, MIO-OPCL or Alejandro Caceres-Euse (Fusion of High-Frequency radar & Altrimetry data to retreive geostrophic veocity at coastal region) will speak.  This COMET Coastal Altimetry Day aims to review the state of the art of coastal dynamics observation using Nadir altimetry. The analysis of Nadir altimetry capabilities will be completed by the analysis of ground-based means and will be evaluated in ocean models. The user need will be widely presented and discussed.

Forum on Plastic-Free Rivers in Asia

 

Emilie Strady (CEM-IMIO) will participate as an invited speaker to Session 3: Mapping plastic pollution along rivers of the  Forum on Plastic-Free Rivers in Asia organised by UNEP which will take place virtually on 8-10 March 2022.

Following the theme of "Reducing river plastic litter through science, policy and citizen action", the Forum will highlight new insights gained from field research and country experiences in addressing riverine plastic pollution in Asia and the Pacific.

22nd Teacher-researcher scientific meeting

 

On Tuesday February 22, the MIO welcomed 13 teachers from primary and secondary schools.

Dominique LEFEVRE, Fanny KARATCHODJOUKOVA (student) and Gérald GREGORI presented them the role of microbial assemblages in the carbon cycle and their influence on the climate, as well as the instruments used to carry out the research.

We thank the rectorate of Aix-Marseille, and more particularly Mrs. SIMONIAN, for giving us this great opportunity to disseminate and share knowledge with the school community.

MIO participation in the One Ocean Summit Brest 9-11/02

Elyne Dugény from MIO-MEB (ATER Univ Toulon) participates as a guest at the World Ocean Summit, organized by the government in Brest from tomorrow, February 9 to 11.
Elyne will intervene on Thursday 10/02 in the Workshop 9 "Global education at sea and youth commitment for the Ocean" (more information available here: https://oneoceansummit.fr/). She represents not only the MIO but also the Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance, in which she is a Youth Ambassador representing France.
