Abstract

Webinar - Discovering the unexplored deep marine environment

Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by a living organism. During this REINFORCE webinar, Séverine Martini (MIO) explained how pelagic organisms give light to deep-sea environments. Watch the webinar again !

Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development 2021

Emilie Strady and Xavier Mari will represent the MIO during two side events proposed by France and Japan in the frame of the 8th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (8th APFSD; https://www.unescap.org/apfsd/8) and taking place virtually from Thailand on March 23-26, 2021. The theme of the 8th APFSD is "Sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia and the Pacific".

2nd scientific meeting of the ANR JCJC CONTAMPUMP project "Plankton: biological pump of contaminants in marine ecosystems" organized at the MIO

The objective of the project is to improve the understanding of trophic transfers of contaminants (metals, Hg, MeHg, PCBs, pesticides, PAHs, alkanes) between water, plankton and planktonophages through transdisciplinary (biology, ecology, chemistry, modeling) and multi-tool approaches.

Mission of studies in high mountains with the MIO and the IMBE

.

In partnership with their Marseille counterparts at IMBE, researchers from the MIO laboratory at the University of Toulon are studying the role of dissolved organic carbon on the ecology of the rope lake. Classified as a "sentinel", this ecosystem sensitive to climate change could foreshadow future ocean changes.

2020 assessment of the state of the fish populations fished in France

How are the fish populations fished in France in 2020? Are their demographics in good shape or are they at the bottom of the wave? Is the renewal of generations of fish assured, and are the ecosystems to which they belong sufficiently productive and healthy for the waters frequented by our fishermen to continue to be sustainably full of fish, today and tomorrow?

The Prime Minister inaugurated Ifremer's headquarters building in Brest on February 6, 2021.

Co-financed by the State and local authorities, Ifremer's head office is located on the Institute's largest scientific research center. It houses the central services and governance of the institute formerly located in Issy-les-Moulineaux. Called "Bougainville", this building, built according to the High Environmental Quality (HQE) standards, is part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) approach that now guides the institute's actions.
