NAUCRATES, follow-ups have started

After the prototyping phase last winter, we recently deployed NAUCRATES devices on the buoys of the two reserves of the Côte Bleue Marine Park. As a reminder, these devices are intended to test the attractive power of buoys and to enhance the value of these devices.

During their first dives, GIS Posidonie (Patrick Astruch) and MIO (Sandrine Ruitton) noted the presence of the first occupants of the Centrolophidae family (the Black Centrolophe (Centrolophus niger), a species characteristic of floating objects).

First output for the MIDYNET project

The MIDYNET project (CNRS) aims to analyse the dynamics of microplastics in a tidal estuary in order to better understand the exchanges between river and ocean waters. This project is based on a collaboration between the MIO, IPREM and SIAME. The workshop site is the Adour estuary, in the Atlantic Pyrenees. The first release was carried out on June 6, 2019, with the dual objective of testing the experimental protocols and providing a first database during periods of high throughput.

The MoMARSAT 2019 oceanographic campaign is about to start!

The MoMARSAT 2019 oceanographic campaign, jointly conducted by Ifremer and the Seismology Team of the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP-CNRS/INSU), will take place from June 10 to July 4, 2019 on the mid-Atlantic ridge off the Azores.

The MIO is collaborating in this campaign: Anne Postec (MEB team) is embarking on the Pourquoi pas? and Céline Romeveaux (MEB team) is in charge of geomicrobiology experiments.

Scientific Days LEFE/GMMC 2019

The University of Toulon and the MIO laboratory are hosting the 2019 LEFE/GMMC Scientific Days of the Mercator Coriolis Mission Group on June 12, 13 and 14, 2019 at the PI - amphitheatre FA.001 building, Toulon campus - Porte d'Italie.

The Mercator-Coriolis Mission Group (GMMC) is an action of the CNRS LEFE programme (INSU) which aims to support French scientific excellence in operational oceanography by contributing to the development of the scientific activities of the two main players in this sector, Mercator Océan International and Coriolis.

The laboratory's Executive Committee met on May 7, 2019 to review the applications for the MIO Cedric Garnier Prize.

Considering the excellent quality of his scientific work and his investment in the laboratory for the community, the Executive Committee awarded Marc Tedetti this prize for the year 2019.
