Congratulations to Guillaume Marchessaux (EMBIO team) who defended his thesis on May 06, 2019

It was in a totally crowded amphitheatre that Guillaume brilliantly presented his thesis on the following subject:
"Study of the emblematic anthroposystem of the Etang de Berre: ecosystem and sociological approaches to the impact of the invasive cténaire Mnemiopsis leidyi"

Doctoral school: Environmental sciences (251)

Director: Delphine Thibaut, Senior Lecturer
Co-Director: Cécilia Clayes, Senior Lecturer

The entire MIO staff congratulates him very warmly.

FUMSECK: colored beads and cytometry!

The FUMSECK team has taken shelter from the storm raging in the Ligurian Sea and took advantage of the calm offered by the Bay of Villefranche to meticulously prepare an unique experience on Monday, May 6, 2019: inject biodegradable colored beads over an area of 100m x 100m, 15m deep, and try to detect them by cytometry.

News from the FUMSECK Cruise !

Congratulations to the new MIO doctor Emmrick Saulia (CYBELE team)

He defended his thesis on Monday 29 April at 9am (metropolitan time) in Noumea on the following subject: "Diazotrophic cyanobacteria in the South Pacific: seasonal variability, morpho-genetic/chemical characterization and recovery potential".

Imminent departure of "FUMSECK", a BIOSWOT project campaign

In the past decades, both modelling and theoretical studies have identified the fine scale (small eddies, current filaments of the order of 10 km) as a dynamical regime with large consequences for planktonic ecosystems. Modellers also generally highlight the need for in situ measurements at the fine scales. Nevertheless, this represents a big challenge due to the ephemeral nature of fine scale structures. Moreover, in order to study physical-biological coupling at the fine scale it is crucial to perform biological measurements at high frequency.

PERLE2 : back to the campaign

The PERLE-2 campaign (PI: P. Conan), aboard the NO/ Pourquoi Pas?, has just ended (21 February - 22 March 2019). On board, an international team of 40 researchers (25 French researchers from LOMIC, MIO, LOV and CEFREM) and 15 foreigners (Greeks, Italians, Israelis and Americans) shared the water from more than 120 CTD profiles.

Guillaume MARCHESSAUX will defend his thesis on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 14:00, Amphitheatre OCEANOMED

Abstract

The Paris Aquarium launches a new series of scientific conferences "Les après-midi du plancton".

The seas and oceans are affected by the proliferation of gelatinous macroplankton that cover jellyfish, siphonophores, ctenophores and salps, causing the oceans to gel.

As part of the recent implementation of its Medusarium, the Paris Aquarium offers a series of 3 conferences led by scientists specializing in the marine world.

The objective of this cycle is to provide a better knowledge of the marine environment by taking into account the evolution of our ecosystems.

The MIO launches the 1st "Cédric Garnier" Award of Excellence

The Cédric GARNIER Award of Excellence is awarded each year in May by the MIO laboratory. It was created to honour the memory of Cédric GARNIER and the values he embodied: excellence, scientific rigour, for the development of innovative, original or remarkable scientific research in oceanography.

The MIO staff wishes Dominique Poirot a pleasant and active retirement

The MIO staff came in large numbers to wish Dominique Poirot, Administrative Manager, a pleasant and active retreat on Monday, April 08, 2019.
