The MERITE-HIPPOCAMPE campaign is leaving soon !

A team of 16 French and Tunisian scientists will board ANTEA, the offshore vessel of the French Oceanographic Fleet operated by Ifremer, from 13 April to 14 May 2019. This 30-day trans-Mediterranean campaign aims to study the state of health of marine ecosystems, in particular the first links in the pelagic food chain (planktonic organisms), in areas of ecological interest in the northern and southern Mediterranean.

The MIO adopts a climate motion!

MIO staff, consulted by electronic vote, were 93% to adopt this motion:
"Aware of the climate emergency and other challenges facing humanity to preserve the viability of our planet earth, the AMU/CNRS/IRD/UTLN staff of the MIO (Mediterranean Institute of Oceanography) laboratory support the initiatives that are being set up at the global level, such as in France, to deal with the global emergency (climate, biodiversity, environment).

Thu Bizat, future administrative head of the MIO, was presented to the Executive Committee on 22 March 2019

This first visit was an opportunity for her to meet with the MIO's management and administrative team. She also gave an overview of important issues with Dominique Poirot.
Ms. Bizat will officially take up her duties on May 02, 2019.

With a DEA in virology and experience in higher education, Thu BIZAT joined a biotechnology start-up before managing a European network of excellence at INRA: "EADGENE". The latter focuses on genomic research into animal diseases, food safety and human health.

Welcome to Laure PAPILLON who joined us on March 15, 2019

Laure is recruited as an assistant chemical analysis engineer (CNRS) and has joined the CEM team. Holder of a DEUG in General and Environmental Biology and a Licence in Chemistry and Marine Biochemistry, she has, for several seasons, taken samples of sea water to carry out essentially bacteriological analyses on behalf of Veolia. She also worked for a pharmaceutical laboratory (IPSEN Pharma Biotech) for which she carried out physico-chemical quality control of drugs.

Global Environment Outlook 6

Published in time for the Fourth United Nations Environmental Assembly, UN Environment’s sixth Global Environment Outlook (2019) calls on decision makers to take immediate action to address pressing environmental issues to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals as well as other Internationally Agreed Environment Goals, such as the Paris Agreement.

Identification of French research potential in polar and subpolar environments

An interdisciplinary working group (WG) has been set up with the objective of ensuring, for the benefit of the entire CNRS, an animation function with a view to the emergence of a CNRS and then national scientific strategy in the polar and sub-polar fields, in consultation with the other national research actors. Led by Jérôme Chappellaz, chargé de mission at my side, the WG will rely on the scientific teams of the CNRS and in particular the polar affairs chargés de missions of the institutes.
